Youth Empowerment Consortium (YEC)
The Special Initiatives and Women-Led Campaigns Directorate serves as the central coordinating arm for all programs and projects advancing gender equality, women’s empowerment, and inclusive leadership within YEC.
Its core mission is to create platforms where women, especially young women can build capacity, lead boldly, and drive community transformation through civic, economic, and policy-oriented engagement.
The Directorate runs three major flagship programs:
2. Women Impact Awards (Merit-Based)
Overview: The Women Impact Awards is a merit-based recognition initiative celebrating outstanding contributions by women and young female leaders who have demonstrated excellence, innovation, and impact in governance, entrepreneurship, community development, social change, and advocacy.
Award Categories (examples):
- Emerging Leader Award – for young women under 30 demonstrating exceptional leadership.
- Community Impact Award – for grassroots initiatives improving lives.
- Innovation & Enterprise Award – for women-led ventures driving economic transformation.
- Public Service & Governance Award – for contributions to civic participation or policy work.
- Women in STEM & Education Award – for promoting innovation, research, and learning.
Selection Process:
- Open nominations through YEC platforms and partner institutions.
- Review by a Gender Advisory Committee composed of experts, mentors, and civil society leaders chaired by the Executive Director for Special initiatives and women led campaigns at YEC.
- Transparent scoring based on impact, innovation, and leadership footprint.
Impact:
- Encourages positive competition and role modeling among young women.
- Showcases stories of resilience and leadership that inspire future generations.
- Promotes visibility and recognition of women making a difference in diverse fields.
